He had the key to heaven if only he could escape from hell. Anthony Shepherd may have burdened with a lost family fortune, but he had found a rather pleasurable way to earn his allowance. And the married ladies of the Ton were very generous when satisfied.
However, when the news of a wallflower with a plump dowry reaches him, he jumps at the chance to escape this way of life. But his future wife captures more than his hand in marriage.
Lydia Walford finishes her third Season with no wedding proposals and no prospect of love. Her desire for a family, however, is greater than anything. Even an arranged marriage sounded better than the lonely life of a spinster.
What she did not expect was for her future husband to be so…tempting!
Lies and secrets of Anthony’s past stir in the shadows but he is determined to protect his wife at all costs. Even if staying away from her will bring his own downfall.
But how can Anthony keep his old life a secret when Lydia knows very well one of his old acquaintances?
The past is his shackles but her love is the key…

The book had a good general plot, but I couldn't stand to read to the end. The heroine's tone was lacking, and her attitude sucked. The general tone of the story was a bit off for 'regency'. I think I got to chapter 7 or so, before I gave up. If I finished, I might have rated 3 stars instead of 2.
The opening of this book already proved this would perhaps be a difficult read. While the author never mentioned the Hero's age, he couldn't have been in his early 20s either. However, the Viscount was in a financial mess he created all on his own because, rather than choosing to learn how to run his estate responsibly, he spent all his time drinking, gambling, and whoring, all the while "wining and dining" beyond his means. On top of which was the fact that he made several bad investments..waa
