The fire is fading. The history is written in ash. And Ember is the last spark. For centuries, the Scorched Clan was a beacon of power. Now, they are a tragedy in the making. With their magic dwindling to mere flickers and the ruthless Tidal Tribe hunting the last of their bloodline, Ember and her brother, Flint, are running out of time.Their only hope for survival is to merge with another clan, but the world has a long memory. Branded as the "Clan of Misfortune," Ember finds every gate barred against them—from the frozen peaks of the Frost Tribe to the living forests of the Woodcrest. When a mysterious guard from the Gust Tribe offers his protection, Ember must decide if he is a true ally or just another predator waiting for her flame to go out. But as she uncovers secrets hidden in the very tomes she swore to protect, a chilling truth emerges: the history she is fighting to save might be built on a foundation of lies.In a world where magic dies with its people, how much of your soul—and your past—are you willing to sacrifice to survive?
I really enjoyed this one. It has that kind of quiet, emotional intensity that builds as you go, and by the end, I was way more invested than I expected to be. Ember is such a strong main character, and not in an obnoxious way, but in that desperate, trying to hold everything together while it’s all falling apart kind of way.If you like fantasy with strong emotional stakes and a bit of romance, this is definitely worth picking up.
This fantasy journey is absolutely captivating from the first page! The rich world-building and unique magic systems create an immersive experience that keeps you hooked throughout. I loved the deep sense of loyalty and the high-stakes adventure as the characters navigate a world full of secrets and wonder. The writing is evocative and fast-paced, making it a truly rewarding read. I
A great fantasy where Ember fights to save her fading Scorched Clan. It’s a journey of survival and secrets as she discovers their history might be a lie. A great opening for the series, balancing action and mystery well. Highly recommended.
